Our History
The Ladner Christian Reformed Church originated with a group of Dutch Christian immigrants who arrived from the Netherlands in 1948. Worship services were held in Dutch until the congregation became more fluent in English.
Meeting for worship began in 1949 in what is currently the Delta Optimist building (47A Avenue, Ladner) with the first church building constructed in 1952 on Ladner Trunk Road (now the location of Delta Christian School).
As a home missionary for the denomination, Rev. P De Koekoek helped to establish many Christian Reformed churches throughout the Lower Mainland. Under his encouragement, Ladner CRC was formally organized in 1950 with 24 families. The church grew quickly, mostly through more arrivals from the Netherlands, expanding to 54 families by 1956.
In 1954, a group of parents primarily from Ladner CRC established Ladner Christian School (now Delta Christian School) in the belief that children should be equipped for life with a Christ-centred education. The school continues to thrive today because of this handful of parents with a passion for Christian worldview learning.
Our current church was built in 1969, completed in 1971. The church community continues to grow, offering a variety of programs for all ages.
Over the years God has brought and continues to bring Canadians and new immigrants from various countries and cultures into our fellowship. We have had an active refugee sponsorship program for several years, welcoming several families and individuals from around the world. In 2023, we began a unique ministry with outreach to Mandarin-speaking Chinese immigrants here in Ladner, which continues to thrive.
We are thankful to our faithful God who has led us through the years. Ladner CRC continues to meet for worship, provide faith-enhancing programs for our members and many others, and serve our local communities in a variety of ways.
