Mission Outreach
Joining God in the renewal of all things
through mission outreach.
In Our Community
Care Home Singing: Once a month, we serve the residents at Mountain View Care Home in Ladner with a brief service, singing favourite hymns and offering a short devotional on Sunday afternoon. This is much appreciated by the residents and staff.
ELS Classes: September through May, we offer classes in English to our community. These are held on Thursday mornings at 10:00 am at the church. Everyone is welcome.
Mission Partners
We have the privilege of supporting missionaries through financial gifts, prayer, and encouragement.
Naji Umran and Anne Zaki work in Cairo, Egypt. Naji is the regional director for the Middle East as a part of the CRCNA’s ministry, Resonate Global Mission. Naji also hosts cohorts, small groups of young people for discipleship and cross-cultural ministry training. Anne is a professor of Preaching and Practical Theology at the Evangelical Presbyterian Seminary in Cairo.
Hannah van der Kamp also works through Resonate Global Mission at the Mavrovouni Camp on the island of Lesvos in Greece. This is the largest refugee camp in that part of Europe, and Hannah has worked there many years teaching English as a Second Language. Being able to speak English is a stepping stone to approval to settle in other parts of Europe. Hannah has been a listening ear to many of her students. Hannah lives on Lesvos with her husband and three young adult children.
Howard & Jannie Johnson and Tim & Charity Johnson work together on the Secwepemc First Nations communities near Chase and Salmon Arm, BC. They befriend and support the indigenous communities there, conducting Bible studies and discipling new believers. Both couples are part of North American Indigenous Ministries (NAIM).
Todd Statham is a campus pastor at UCB Okanagan in Kelowna, BC with Campus Re/formed Okanagan. He loves to explore with students and faculty how all things—what we study, what we research, what we imagine and hope—‘hold together in Christ’ (Colossians 1:17). He is a sessional lecturer at UBCO and coordinates the campus’s new Spirituality and Multifaith Chaplaincy.
Gary Roosma is the chaplain for Ministry to Seafarers, a ministry focused on support for and outreach to seafarers who pass through the Port of Vancouver. Gary partners with the Mission to Seafarers (Anglican Church) and Stella Maris (Roman Catholic Church), serving at the Waterfront Centre (downtown Vancouver) and at Roberts Bank (Tsawwassen). Ministry to Seafarers is a member of the North American Maritime Ministry Association (NAMMA).
New Immigrant Sponsorship
Ladner CRC has sponsored nine families and individuals over the past 15 years. These people were refugees and had to leave their own countries without hope of returning, due to religious persecution or war. We have been able to welcome these new immigrants from Myanmar, Egypt, Iran, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, and Sudan.
Several of these families have settled permanently in Ladner, and some continue to be a part of our congregation.
Responding to God’s commands to love the stranger and care for the downtrodden has been our motivation as a church. We have been blessed in building relationships with these fellow Christians and seeing their children thrive in a new land.
